Keeping Your Calm with Sedation Options

kid having nitrous oxideAt Camas Dentistry, we want you to receive quality dental care to maintain optimal oral health. That’s why we offer two dental sedation options:

Nitrous Oxide

Also known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a safe, effective sedative to help you relax during dental treatment. We’ll place a mask over your nose and ask you to breathe normally; the mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen will reduce your anxiety, decrease discomfort, and give you a feeling of euphoria.

You won’t be asleep during your procedure, and you’ll be able to respond and answer questions. As soon as we remove the mask, the effects of the nitrous oxide wear off. It’s ok to drive, and you can return to your normal activities.

Oral Conscious Sedation

We can prescribe a pill for you to take one hour before your dental appointment; once the pill takes effect, your senses will be dulled, but you won’t be asleep. You’ll likely feel drowsy and relaxed and may not remember your appointment.

Oral conscious sedation is a fantastic option because you can receive the treatment you need, and we can work more effectively and efficiently. After your treatment, it’s best to go home and rest for the remainder of the day, and you’ll need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.
