What Qualifies as a Dental Emergency?

Several situations require the immediate attention of an emergency dentist in Camas, WA:

  • Severe toothache
  • Lost dental crown or filling
  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Injury to the lips or tongue
  • Knocked-out or partially knocked-out tooth

Dental emergencies can be scary, but acting promptly is crucial. Procrastinating can give the problem time to worsen and may lead to more severe dental and health complications. If you experience any of the above, our team is ready to help you.

Contact Camas Dentistry and get the emergency dental care in Camas that you urgently need.

Tips for Handling Dental Emergencies

We are here for you, but knowing how to handle certain dental emergencies until you see our dentist can help you feel better and prevent problems from worsening.

Toothache

Use floss to gently dislodge any food caught between teeth. Rinse with warm salt water, apply clove oil to the affected area, or take an over-the-counter pain reliever to minimize discomfort.

Lost Crown or Filling

If a crown falls off, keep it safe and avoid chewing on the affected side. Slip the crown back on the tooth using over-the-counter dental cement if possible. For a lost filling, place sugar-free gum over the area to protect it until you can see us.

Broken Tooth

Rinsing your mouth with warm water will help cleanse the area. Apply a cold compress on your face to reduce swelling if necessary.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Call us immediately and head to our office right away, as fast treatment gives us the best chance of saving the tooth. Hold the tooth by the crown, but do not touch the root. Gently rinse it if it’s dirty, and try reinserting it into the socket. If not, keep it moist in a cup of milk or saliva.

Avoiding Future Dental Emergencies

Accidents happen, but taking some easy precautions can minimize risks:

  • Wear a mouthguard during sports.
  • Avoid chewing ice, popcorn kernels, and hard candies.
  • Don’t use teeth to open packages or cut things.
  • Maintain regular dental check-ups to stay ahead of potential issues.
