A dental emergency can be a scary and stressful experience. You may not know what to do when you have a toothache or injured your mouth, but fortunately, the dental team at Camas Dentistry is prepared to handle the unexpected. We offer same-day emergency dental care to make you comfortable promptly and restore your oral health. Keep reading to learn more about what constitutes a dental emergency and how we can help.

What Is a Dental Emergency?

We often hear our patients say they weren’t sure if their situation was an emergency. At Camas Dentistry, we want you to call us even if you are unsure because waiting could lead to more complicated dental issues.

Any of the following situations are considered to be a dental emergency:

  • Severe toothache
  • Knocked-out tooth
  • Broken or cracked teeth
  • Damaged or lost dental restoration
  • Soft tissue injury to the mouth

Act Quickly in an Emergency Situation

Until you can reach our dental office, you can follow these tips for relief:

Severe toothache – Try taking an over-the-counter pain reliever to ease your pain. You can also rinse your mouth with warm salt water.

Knocked-out tooth – Without touching the tooth’s roots, try to reinsert it into the socket. If that doesn’t work, place the tooth in your cheek or a glass of milk and call us immediately.

Broken or cracked teeth – If possible, find the broken piece of your tooth and bring it to your emergency appointment. Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area.

Broken or lost restoration – If you lose a dental filling, place a piece of sugar-free gum over the exposed area; if you lose a dental crown, place the crown over the tooth and avoid chewing on that side of your mouth until you reach our dental office.
